Shoe Care
General Guidelines
- Always allow footwear to dry naturally and never put them near direct heat.
- Use scotch guard protector regularly to help protect your shoes from stains such as water stains. This will help to repel water & prevent stains.
- Never put damp shoes into a cupboard to store as the shoe may disintegrate over time. Always dry out fully at room temperature before putting away.
- Use a shoe horn to assist with putting on your shoes, to keep the heel from losing its shape.
Cleaning & Maintaining Suede & Nubuck Leather
- Before you wear your new suede/nubuck shoes we recommend that you treat them with a scotch guard protective spray.
- Use a cleaning block for heavy stains. This product is like a pencil eraser & crumbles as you rub it across the surface of the footwear
- The nap of your suede can be restored by using a suede brush
- If your suede shoes get wet, stuff them with newspaper while they dry to keep their shape.
Cleaning & Maintaining Faux Leather
- Faux Suede, velvet & glitter finish shoes needs to be dusted & wiped with a damp cloth
- Cleaning your shoes regularly & applying shoe cream will keep your footwear pliable & help to keep them fresh & new looking. Wipe shoes with a soft damp cloth with either a shoe cleaning soap or mild detergent. Dry with a towel & buff.
Cleaning & Maintaining Smooth Leather
- Clean your shoes with a damp cloth before you polish to remove dirt & debris which can become embedded in leather
- Use a polish or cream, Apply evenly to shoe with a brush or soft cloth. Allow it to dry in. Once the shoe is dry, buff using a natural bristle brush.
- Using a shoe tree to store leather shoes will help retain the shape of the leather. Stuffing the toe cap of a shoe with newspaper or tissue will also do this.
Outdoor Shoes – Gortex, GriTex, RiekerTex, JennyTex
- First knock off the loose dirt and allow your boots/shoes to dry naturally.
- Let leather boots dry naturally, stuff old news paper inside the boots if they insides are wet. Keep them away from direct heat, ie. Beside the fire or radiator, as this will dry and stiffen the leather which then cause’s cracks in it. Do not use greasy products to polish waterproof leather products as it will affect the footwear’s breathability
- Use a sponge to clean off sponge of material boots/shoes and then allow to dry naturally.
